Using Art to Uplift, Inspire, and Heal
Inspiring BrushStrokes is a nonprofit based in Lititz with a clear mission to make art accessible to children who need it most. It was founded by Elizabeth Roberts, a young creative with a powerful story and a strong sense of purpose.
Growing up, Elizabeth experienced two very different home environments. Her mother and stepfather made sure she felt safe and supported. At her father’s home, things were more difficult. There were challenges with stability, poverty, and emotional safety. Through everything, art became her way to cope and stay grounded.
The idea for Inspiring BrushStrokes came during high school. After attending the Central PA HOBY conference, Elizabeth found the encouragement she needed to move forward with a vision she had quietly carried for years. That vision became a registered nonprofit focused on providing art supply boxes to children who may not otherwise have access.
As Elizabeth puts it, the goal isn’t just to hand out supplies. It’s to help kids feel something deeper.
“To feel inspired. To be encouraged to create art, to share art and supplies with others, to create art communities, to use art as a tool in life for therapeutic purposes, income, or just self expression.”
Since becoming an official 501(c)(3), Inspiring BrushStrokes has already started making an impact. At the Taste of Lititz event, a proud grandfather shared a photo of his grandson’s award-winning school art project. That project was made possible with supplies from one of their boxes.
At another event, a woman picked up coloring pages and crayons for her sister who was in the hospital. They followed up with more resources and stayed in touch. These kinds of moments continue to remind them why the work matters.
They’ve even figured out how to transport giant pool noodle crayons, oversized paint palettes, folding tables, and supplies for events. It felt like a game of Tetris at first, but now it’s all second nature.
Elizabeth is only seventeen and already creating something that’s touching lives. She plans to study astrophysics in the future, but for now she’s focused on sharing the healing and joy that comes from creativity.
