Where History Feels Alive in Lancaster County

Stepping into Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum feels like crossing into another time. The gentle sound of horses in the pasture, the ring of the blacksmith’s hammer, and the scent of fresh earth from the gardens remind you that this is more than a museum. It is a living community devoted to preserving Pennsylvania’s German heritage.

A Living Connection to the Past

Founded nearly a century ago by brothers Henry and George Landis, this one hundred acre village tells the story of Lancaster County’s farming and craftsmanship from the seventeen hundreds through the early nineteen hundreds. Every building and artifact shares a piece of history, from the pottery shop and log farm to the tavern and textile exhibits.

Visitors often spend hours exploring, learning from historians and artisans who bring each skill and story to life. You might watch a wheel being shaped for a Conestoga wagon or see how heritage livestock are cared for on the farm.

What You Will Experience

  • Live interpreters and demonstrators throughout the historic village
  • Farm animals including horses, cows, pigs, sheep, and chickens
  • Workshop classes for adults and homeschool programs for kids
  • Group tours and educational programs led by knowledgeable guides
  • Rentals for weddings, showers, parties, and corporate events

You might find yourself stepping into a workshop alive with activity, hearing the ring of the blacksmith’s hammer, or joining the crowd at one of the museum’s seasonal events. Every visit brings a new opportunity to learn, explore, and connect with the traditions that shaped Pennsylvania’s past.

"Loved it! Unique, interactive displays with a mix of self-guided sections that encourage you to move at your pace. The history of the Pennsylvania Dutch and intertwine of religion make for competing visions and stories. It was especially interesting to learn about the two Landis men who collected artifacts and founded the museum. The staff were helpful and Emma was a standout interpreter - very genuine, knowledgeable, and helpful! Entrance fee is reasonable."

"Peaceful and educational. The museum has so many collections gathered by the Landis brothers - a look into the past. Excellent guided tour (shout out to Ashley) included in admission. Also the museum gift shop is not to be missed - well stocked with local handcrafts. The gift shop is also accessible without having to pay admission, so it's worth a visit even if you don't have time to tour."
